ABOUT US
We are a network of lawyers
and PLWHA from around the Pacific Islands region.
Our vision is:
A Pacific Islands region where policies and legislation
are sensitive to HIV/AIDS-related issues and where the rights of those infected
and affected by the virus are protected and defended.
Our aims are:
- To assess, review,
and to suggest amendments to existing policy & legislation across
and in each of the Pacific Islands at all social, political and economic
levels. (government, companies, organizations, local communities,
schools, etc…).
- To ensure that
rights of those infected and affected by the virus are protected/defended.
- To empower positive
Pacific Islanders to become HIV and human rights advocates and trainers.
- To carry out
research to document human rights violations of PLWHAs in the Pacific
Islands.
Achievement of aims:
The legal
and human rights taskforce (LHRTF) currently has three projects:
- The legal advice
service, which provides free legal advice to PLWHA
- The advocacy
and research team, which carries out research on discrimination against
PLWHA and uses this research to advocate for change
- The legal literacy
working group, which is working to produce brochures, fact sheets and discussion papers on HIV, human rights and the
law
